The Leafcocoon - a softer coffin...
- A strong wooden frame is encased in wool and felt to form a thick mattress
- A woolen shroud is safely strapped in
- Two thick layers of felt toggle down over this to form a woolly cocoon with a smooth outline
- Six handles take all the weight and so the whole Leafcocoon is buried.
Great attention has been given to the choice of materials as well as practical considerations.
This is a new and gentler approach - an alternative to the Victorian funeral coffin - reflecting awareness of the environment, staying close to nature, intrinsically soft and comforting.
Costs: Leafcocoon with personalized decoration - £885
Leafcocoon - no decoration - £785
Carriage - from £20 depending on destination

This is how it works
The Leafcocoon construction

Cover this layer is fastened down with wooden toggles, and shelters the shrouded body
Wrap the body is wrapped in a soft woollen inner cocoon and secured to the frame.
Base a sturdy wooden frame forms the strong base for the Leafcocoon, encased in thick woollen felt, sewn in and secured. Its padded with natural and absorbent materials to take up leakage
Handles there are six carrying handles, and extra ones underneath for pulling in or out of a vehicle
- The toggles are made from hazel wood, worked and finished by hand.
- There are also fastening ties hidden inside the felt layers to ensure stability
